Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA)

Making Homeschooling Possible—Together

Every child is different and should have the freedom to learn in a safe, loving environment at their own pace.

  • We partner with our 100,000 member families, donors, homeschool leaders, legislators, and others who want to protect this freedom.
  • We’ve been trusted for over 40 years to advance and protect homeschool freedom in the courts, legislatures, and in the court of public opinion.
  • We equip parents with educational resources and Compassion grants because we love homeschooling and want more families to experience it.
  • We know the benefits and challenges of homeschooling personally—most of our staff are homeschool parents and grads.

Heritage Defense

Heritage Defense is a non-profit legal advocacy organization dedicated to advancing the Kingdom of Christ by protecting and empowering the biblical family. Our strategy for accomplishing this mission is simple. By uniting Christian families across the country as members of Heritage Defense, we hope to help the Body of Christ join together in protecting one another, defending the Gospel, advancing biblical practices, and championing the causes of those unlawfully persecuted by the state for obeying God’s commands in raising their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

We believe the time has come for Christians to unite and defend our heritage.

AUDIENCE

Homeschooling Backgrounder is a resource for policymakers and journalists. We provide information they want to know before making policy decisions or writing informed articles about homeschooling.

MISSION AND POLICY STATEMENT

Homeschooling Backgrounder’s mission is to promote the use of credible data and reasoned analysis about homeschooling. The intent is to counterbalance current public criticisms of homeschooling based primarily on speculation, presuppositions, and opinions.

We support the use of the scientific method when investigating homeschooling outcomes. This includes gathering systematic data as much as possible, rather than citing anecdotes, and basing the next steps upon that data. Our policy is to rely on the best data available.

Homeschool Freedom

'Homeschool Freedom' provides homeschool resources to people across the country.

We've been promoting and protecting homeschool freedom since 1983

Our Vision

We believe homeschooling — personalized, parent-directed, privately-funded and free from regulation — gives children the freedom to flourish academically, emotionally, and socially within the nurturing environment of home and family.

Our Story

Homeschool Freedom is a project of the National Alliance of Christian Home Education Leadership, a non-profit organization that supports leaders serving in the homeschooling community. We endeavor to connect, encourage, and equip Christian state homeschool organizations in promoting and safeguarding home education to the glory of God.

Education Independence

Most elected officials, school choice advocates, and everyday families correctly identify a serious problem: education in America is declining. In an attempt to solve this problem, many states across the nation are seeking to pass school choice programs that redistribute public funds from the state education budget into the pockets of students, ushering public dollars into the private sphere of education.

However, this trending solution overlooks the reality that if you infuse a private space with public dollars, it no longer remains private. Thus, the independent education space in which we flourish and love will cease to exist.

We believe in a better way.
